Kids under 16 can become members of our club for FREE, and take part in all of our activities including those mentioned below. Kids over 16 and who are students, have annual dues of only $15.00.
Since FREE club membership entitles them to college scholarship money, a chance at a Lifetime Fishing license, a week at the Bryant Pond 4H Learning Center, and a host of other benefits, why aren't all of the kids you know members?
Our annual ice fishing derby is the last full weekend (25 & 26th). Proceeds go to send area kids to 4-H Camp and Learning Center in Bryant Pond. This year we will have FAMILY DAY on Sunday when we will be teaching kids how to ice fish, and snowshoe .The 4-H Camp will help us by supplying experts to teach kids some winter survival tips that could save their lives! We'll have the equipment and folks to help them learn a new pursuit. Our headquarters is the "Red Schoolhouse" on Norway Lake, stop in for food, raffle tickets, to register a fish, or to say hello.
We will be participating in the annual FAMILY FISHING DAY in Norway at Butters Park on the 3rd of June. We'll clean and cook fish for the kids and help them catch them! We will be handing our fishing law books, and we will give those kids without equipment rods and reels as well as a tackle box with goodies. Last year we give 86 such outfits to kids so that they could continue to pursue fishing at later dates, and perhaps begin an outdoor active life! We thank supporters like Cabelas, Jeff's Bait & Tackle and Dag's Bait & Tackle for their donations which help greatly! This is Maine's free fishing weekend, so parents and accompanying adults can assist the kids without a license.
Youth Field Day, June 17th. We invite 40 kids between the ages of 10 and 15, and their parent or guardian to come for a full day of exciting outdoor education. In groups of 10, they will rotate through four important outdoor disciplines: 1. .22 education and target practice; 2. Archery education and target practice; 3. Map reading and compass use, and tree identification; 4 . Survival and First Aid. A free hot dog lunch will be provided. Please note that NO CELL PHONES WILL BE PERMITTED. There is no charge for this fun and educational experience!
As we do every year, we will be sending some of our Youth Members to the University of Maine Bryant Pond 4H Learning Center. We pay for the entire week (Cost is $635.00 we pay all but $25.00), so these kids get an outdoor educational experience of a lifetime! Learn more about the camp at: U of Maine 4H Camp & Learning Center
We will be awarding College Scholarship Money to area high school graduates who have some affiliation with our club at the annual Oxford Hills Graduation ceremony.
We will draw one name from our YOUTH MEMBERS and grant that winner a lifetime Maine fishing license! This takes place each year at our July BBQ non- meeting.
Watch our monthly newsletters (sign up on our HOME page if you wish) for information about the many classes we run each year. They include things like Hunter Safety courses, Archery Classes. Trapping Classes, etc.
In December, our club members donate both money and Christmas gifts which we give to area families and their children who wouldn't be having a happy Christmas without them. The great generosity of our membership is appreciated by many local folks and we are thankful to be able to help them.
